Emma AI — Founding Full Stack Engineer (Jun 2025 – Oct 2025)
Emma AI was an early-stage AI startup building tools to help teams turn messy conversations, transcripts, and operational knowledge into structured, useful outputs. The product sat at the intersection of AI, workflow automation, and business productivity: taking unstructured input and transforming it into summaries, reports, notes, actions, and follow-up material that teams could actually use.
Joshua joined Emma AI as one of the early engineers, working close to the core product and helping shape features from prototype through to usable product experiences. In a small startup environment, he worked across the stack, moving quickly between backend APIs, AI prompt workflows, frontend demos, and product decisions.
His work focused on building AI-assisted workflows that could analyse transcripts, extract key information, and return structured outputs such as incident reports, meeting notes, summaries, and email drafts. This required more than simply connecting to an LLM — Joshua worked on turning unpredictable natural language into consistent, useful formats that could support real business processes.
Technically, the work involved Python, FastAPI, OpenAI integrations, Pydantic schemas, API design, and lightweight frontend prototyping. Joshua helped build endpoints that accepted raw transcript data, passed it through carefully structured AI workflows, and returned clean, usable responses for the frontend or downstream users.
Emma AI gave Joshua valuable 0→1 startup experience — an environment where engineers need to be fast, adaptable, commercially aware, and comfortable with ambiguity. It sharpened his ability to prototype quickly, think in product terms, and build AI features that solve practical business problems rather than just demonstrate impressive technology.
