OOF: Fire My Mixtape Case Study
OOF: Fire My Mixtape is a 2D narrative platformer built in Unity. The project combines platforming mechanics, original sprite art, custom music, and comic storytelling around a failed athlete trying to reinvent himself as a musician.
Problem
The creative challenge was to build a complete game experience with a distinctive tone, original assets, and enough structure to carry both gameplay and story. The project needed to feel cohesive across mechanics, visuals, music, and cutscenes.
Role
As the Sole Game Developer, I owned the full production pipeline: Unity implementation, level design, sprite creation, soundtrack production, cutscene integration, gameplay tuning, and release packaging.
Architecture
- Gameplay: 2D platforming levels use themed obstacles, progression, and challenge design to support the story arc.
- Storytelling: Animated cutscenes connect levels and reinforce the character's comedic rise toward musical fame.
- Audio: Original music supports the tone and pacing of the game rather than relying on stock tracks.
- Art Direction: Custom sprites and environments give the game a consistent hand-built identity.
Stack
Unity, C#, 2D sprite production, level design, animation/cutscene workflows, and original audio production.
Media
The page includes a Vimeo gameplay video, an itch.io play link, and a screenshot gallery from /assets/images/work/OOF/OOF1.png through OOF7.png.
Outcome / Impact
The finished project shows end-to-end ownership of an interactive product, from technical implementation to creative direction. It demonstrates game-development fundamentals, multimedia production, and the ability to ship a playable experience.
